Textbook:

 

Linear algebra and its applications, fifth Edition, by David Lay.

A weekly note will be posted online before the class. The note will be uploaded to an APP, called lanmo, the class number is 169704

 

Course Description:

Systems of linear equations, and Solution sets of linear systems. Linear transformations and the matrix of a linear transformation. Matrix operations and the inverse of a matrix. Vector spaces. Determinants. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors. Application to marKov Chains. Inner product, orthogonality.

Midterm: 10/11/2019, Thursday on Week 6, in class during the lecture time.

Final Exam Date/Time: 11/08/2019, in class during the lecture time.

Usually you will receive a short practice set on WeBWork before each class. You read the lecture note and try to solve the practice set. After the class, another exercise set wait for you to crack. You are encouraged to ask around for help as long as you can finish the assignment before the deadline. There is only one online assignment you can’t ask for help, that is, the weekly quiz on each Sunday afternoon.

 

Research Project: In the end of this Semester, a research project is asked to hand in. The topics will be assigned on week 6. You can join a group, but the group must have no more than 4 people.

 

Grading:

1.     Online assignment    15%

2.     Online quiz         10%

3.     Attendence          5%

4.     Midterm                             20%

5.     Final Exam              30%

6.     Research Project     10%

 

Class Disciplines: A student who has three or more records of absence, will not be allowed to take the final Exam. Any paper with proper endorsement will not account for the absence. A paper signed by an advisor is only valid for the same day. All the other excused absence should be approved by the Overseas Education College.
